Simple Solutions for Natural Nutrition

Happy March and happy National Nutrition Month! When was the last time you had a nutritional check-up? At the NHIC, we often find that poor nutrition can be at the root of many common health complaints. Check out these simple steps to foster wellness from within by giving your body all of the ingredients it needs for good health!

Fresh is Best

Holistic nutrition is built on the principle that food should not only satisfy your taste buds but should also nourish every cell in your body. To make a healthy impact with your diet, the first question to ask yourself is How much of what I eat comes from fresh, unprocessed foods?

Fresh, organic produce should be the foundation of your diet. Do you have a farmer’s market (ideally with organic farmers) in your area? This is a great way to connect with your community, support a local farmer, and know where your food comes from. It can also be a fun way to get the family involved in shopping for fresh, nourishing foods.

You are likely well aware that you are what you eat, so getting your hands on the highest-quality foods is step one!  Dr. Auburn often recommends the Environment Working Group (EWG) consumer guides to help patients inform their shopping decisions. The Dirty Dozen guide can help you identify foods that are shown to have the highest amount of pesticides and agricultural toxins. Alternatively, the Clean 15 are some of the least toxic produce items available and are less concerning if purchased non-organic.

We also like to say that good nutrition doesn’t have to be without enjoying a treat every once in a while. If a bit of dessert helps you maintain balance, then it is worth it! Moderation is key; a well-balanced diet rich in fresh, unprocessed foods allows for occasional treats without compromising overall health.

Use Supplements for Support

While a wholesome diet is the best way to get the nutrients your body needs, sometimes it might not be enough. This is why we look to supplements. Supplements can fill in the gaps in your diet and help ensure you're getting an adequate amount of essential nutrients. Some people are also predisposed to metabolize nutrients differently and may be prone to deficiencies.

However, finding the best balance for YOU is the goal. What is helpful for one patient may be less helpful for another. With so many different supplements and formulas available, knowledge is perhaps the most important tool in your nutritional toolkit, and that is where we come in.

Vitamins and minerals can interact with each other and with medication, so it’s important to consult with a healthcare provider before starting any new supplement regimen. We recommend high-quality supplements that have been third-party tested for purity and potency, and you can be sure that any products we provide have been vetted by our staff.

Act Fast with IV Nutrition

While a balanced diet is key, certain conditions or nutrient deficiencies may require a more direct method of nutrient delivery. Nutritional IV therapy is a powerful tool providing essential vitamins and minerals directly into the bloodstream. This therapy can support immune health, boost energy levels, and assist in recovery from various health conditions.

For individuals needing a more immediate boost in nutrients, especially those who have trouble absorbing nutrients through their digestive system, IV nutrition can be a game-changer! It's important to note that IV nutrition should be performed by a qualified healthcare provider and is not a replacement for a healthy diet but rather a supplement to it. We encourage anyone interested in IV therapy to consult one of our providers to discuss ordering a custom IV therapy plan.
