Hair Restoration PRP
Hair loss is an often-embarrassing condition which can affect both men and women. Hair loss has many causes, but fortunately, it can often be improved and even reversed with lifestyle change, comprehensive healthcare, and partnering with a provider who can offer innovative and natural methods of hair restoration. Platelet rich therapy, or PRP, is an excellent treatment option for hair loss because it has a number of scientifically based articles showing its efficacy for increasing hair count, hair thickness, and hair regrowth.
What Are Platelets & What Is PRP?
Platelets are a blood component whose main function is to stop bleeding. We all have platelets. It turns out that platelets also have granules that, when activated, release more than ten growth factors that not only attract more platelets to the area but also stimulate new collagen production and many other processes that are beneficial to healing and hair growth. PRP is a simple method of harnessing your body’s growth factors to invoke targeted healing and repair of damaged tissue. Dr. Auburn has long utilized PRP for orthopedic reasons treating painful joints, muscle strains, and torn ligaments.
PRP For Hair Loss
PRP therapy for hair loss is the process of withdrawing the patient’s own blood, processing it so that only the enriched cells (platelet-rich plasma) remain, and injecting it into the scalp. PRP contains essential proteins and growth factors that stimulate natural hair growth. PRP has been shown, in clinical observations, to have overall rejuvenating effects on the scalp in strengthening existing hair follicles and stimulating hair growth.
In a study conducted with 64 patients affected by androgenic alopecia, the following results were obtained after a series of two injections:
PRP scalp injections increased the diameter and density of existing hair
PRP scalp injections lead to hair regrowth in balding areas
PRP scalp injections prevented hair loss and breakage
PRP scalp injections resulted in increased epidermis thickness
PRP scalp injections increased the number of hair follicles
PRP scalp injections increased the proliferation of basal cells
In Conclusion
PRP is a safe, effective, scientifically proven method to treat hair loss and thinning. Due to the natural variation in quality of PRP, results will vary between individuals. Most patients require multiple sessions to obtain desired outcomes.
We recommend 1 treatment per month for 6 treatments for best results.
